Abstract

Purpose : In the twenty-first century, sustainable development became a crucial aspect of business activities. In management and organizational science, emerging research on employee green behavior was largely fragmented across the human resource development spectrum. This study assessed the state of employee green behavior research and identified emerging trends through an in-depth corpus analysis.

Design/Methodology/Approach : This article presented a detailed bibliometric study of employee green behavior. We retrieved 768 scholarly articles from 2016 to 2026 from the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases and assessed them using content analysis, network analysis, and bibliometric analysis. The bibliometric study was conducted using RStudio.

Findings : The bibliometric results showed that employee green behavior and sustainability have gained scholarly attention, specifically in pro-environmental behavior. By constructing a keyword co-occurrence network, the study identified green human resource management (GHRM) and organizational development as basic research domains. It integrated human resources, environmental management, and workplace sustainability. The thematic examination further showed that corporate social responsibility, environmental value, and human resources were also key topics in the corpus.

Practical Implications : The prominence of GHRM, leadership, sustainability, and pro-environmental behavior demonstrated the importance of integrating environmental objectives into HR practices, leadership development, employee engagement, and workplace sustainability initiatives. Organizations could strengthen employee green behavior by embedding environmental responsibilities into organizational policies, performance management, and leadership practices.

Originality/Value : The study extended the existing bibliometric literature on employee green behavior by providing an updated and comprehensive mapping of the field using publications from Scopus and WoS. It also demonstrated the growing convergence of GHRM, organizational sustainability, leadership, and employee-level environmental behavior. By providing a basis for understanding emerging directions.
